In the last two weeks, Radboud University has received several reports concerning the harassment of women by an unknown young man. Because of these reports, Radboud University has launched a temporary hotline, and has advised people to be especially vigilant.

At least three women have been harassed on campus in the past few weeks, Radboud University reports on its website. A spokesperson for the university was unable to describe the exact nature of the incidents, nor could they confirm whether the incidents involved the same perpetrator. The police have indicated that the situations were all very similar, but they too were unable to determine whether they involve a single suspect.

Due to the incidents, Radboud University launched a hotline, which received several new reports within a day. University spokesperson Martijn Gerritsen could not say how many reports have been received, nor if they were of a similar nature as before.

Security service

However, Gerritsen did state that the university is taking the reports seriously. ‘It is important to have an overview of any developments. Depending on the type of report, we will contact either security services or a confidential advisor’, Gerritsen explains.

The police have also been made aware of the situation. ‘The university and our security service are in regular contact with the police’, Gerritsen says. ‘This is also the case for these incidents.’

The police confirm this. ‘We were informed of the incidents this week, and we have been in contact with the affected students’, says police spokesperson Jop Heinen. ‘We will communicate with the university about any potential leads.’

The university calls on everyone to be especially vigilant. ‘Owing to these signals, it is now extra important that we look out for each other. We want a safe campus for all our staff and students,’ as read in the announcement on the website.
