There will be a new, independent investigation into the Psychology professor who showed sexually transgressive behaviour towards a master's student between 2017 and 2020. The reason is that new reports have emerged about the professor.

Evelyn Kroesbergen, dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences, has told Vox that there will be a new investigation into the discredited psychology professor. ‘We have received multiple new signals and reports about said professor within the faculty.’

It is not yet clear who will perform the investigation. ‘But it will be done very carefully, for the sake of all those involved’, as stated by the dean. Both the professor as well as the reporters have been made aware.

Last week, radio programme Argos revealed that a psychology professor was guilty of sexually transgressive behaviour towards a master’s student, between 2017 and 2020. The professor received a formal warning, which was appended to his personnel file as a ‘yellow card’.

Tremendous unrest

Earlier, ombudsperson Nancy Viellevoye called for a new, external investigation into the discredited professor. ‘There is currently tremendous unrest within the Faculty of Social Sciences,’ according to the ombudsperson. ‘Many people feel unsafe. There are many fair questions, including about the procedures followed at the time. I believe the only way to address this is through a thorough and independent investigation. This can clarify what happened and how it should be addressed appropriately.’

Update (September 27^th, 15:00): An earlier version of this article stated that the ombudsperson was considering a new, independent investigation into the disgraced professor, if the faculty board or the Executive Board would not do so. After publication, the faculty board announced their own investigation.
