This afternoon, the electricity in part of the Erasmus building short-circuited due to a leak. The fire department deployed several trucks as a precautionary measure but did not have to take action.

Today, around noon, a short-circuited occurred on the top floor of the Erasmus tower, triggering the fire alarm in part of the building. The fire department arrived on the scene with five trucks, including a cherry picker. Fortunately, they did not have to put out any fires.

However, they did check the floor in question, which houses the building’s maintenance room. ‘An investigation revealed that the short-circuit may have been caused by a leak’, according to the officer in charge.

Standard procedure

It is standard procedure to deploy several trucks, even in cases where there is no fire, as explained by the officer. ‘We take every precaution when it comes to alarms from high-rise buildings if we’re not sure what’s going on.’

The deployment caused some confusion among the people on campus. While the top floors of the Erasmus building were cleared, downstairs was business as usual. Several employees cast some curious glances outside from the lower floors. The supplying of the Spar also continued as normal while the fire department was on scene.

The exact cause of the leak is unknown as of yet. A University spokesperson was unavailable for comment on Friday.
