What to do in Nijmegen this week

04 Apr 2016

A new week, but an empty schedule? As an English-speaking inhabitant of Nijmegen, it can be hard to find out what to do this week. Vox helps out with five tips.

Monday – The Hero Round Table conference is over, but tonight you can still catch a glimpse of psychologist Zimbardo’s work during a screening of the film Stanford Prison Experiment. This film is based on a real experiment, created by Zimbardo, on what circumstances bring out the worst in people.

Tuesday – In café Camelot, at the Grote Markt, you find live music every Tuesday. The night is simply called Camelot Live and a lot of singer-songwriters and bands have already played on the small stage there. You can order a beer, sit on the pillow-covered pool table and listen to some acoustic music. Tomorrow, two Dutch singer-songwriters, Marinus G. de Valk en Paul Verschuur, play their songs.

Tuesday – More guitars and singing in CultuurCafé tomorrow night, during Nootuitgang. Students who want to be the next John Mayer or Amy MacDonald try to win by singing their own songs. You can go and support your favorite, or just listen to some music.

Wednesday – Sunday – Lux Nijmegen will again be the scene of the international short film festival Go Short. Every year, film makers from all over the world come to Nijmegen to watch short films, give and attend lectures and network. Visitors can buy tickets for the whole festival, or for separate blocks of short films. The nights end in Merleyn, during the after parties.

Sunday – Under the name A (not so) Lazy Sunday Afternoon at Dollars, café Dollars throws a rock band night on Sunday. Five acts, free entrance, and it starts at 15.30. You can easily be in bed in time for a fresh Monday. / Jozien Wijkhuijs
