A new week, but an empty schedule? As an English-speaking inhabitant of Nijmegen, it can be hard to find out what to do this week. Vox helps out with five tips.

Thursday – At the science faculty, you can visit the Sound of Science festival on Thursday. This annual festival, organized by Cultuur op de Campus and science study associations, explores the boundaries between art and sciences with music and art. Drinks and food will be provided as well. It starts at 17.00, so you can go right after work or study.

Friday – Parties seem to always have to have a cool theme these days. That is why it is quite refreshing to see that De Plak is throwing a party this Friday, under the name ‘Just a nice evening in Café de Plak’. There will be a DJ, drinks and dancing. Sometimes it is just that simple.

Friday – Want to practice your Dutch and also work on your knowledge of local music? Go to the sing-a-long night in café Dollars on Friday. All the classic Dutch pop songs will be played by a live band, and after a few hours, the Dutch will probably just mime the sounds of the songs anyway, just like you.

Sunday – Lindy Hop is an African American dance from the twenties and thirties. It is becoming more and more popular these last years and on Sunday, the local Lindy Hop association organizes a Lindy Hop and tea afternoon in Brebl, at the Honig complex, called Sunday Tea Dance. A beginners class will start at 15.00, if you want to try your own luck hopping around.

Sunday – There are multiple vinyl markets in town, but this one is quite close to the center and still hidden. In the Thiemeloods in Bottendaal, you can find one this Sunday. One free coffee when you enter and 10.000 vinyl records and cd’s to browse through. / Jozien Wijkhuijs
