ISN Nijmegen, the new international student association, has started its activities recently. There are drinks, games, parties and food. But on top of that, they launch a new event tonight, meant for international students who want the talk about the harder parts of studying abroad.

Right after the last Orientation week, this January, ISN Nijmegen started their activities as an official international student association. At the beginning of this week, they passed the 100 members mark. ‘Things got off to a great start’, says Lisette te Hennepe, the president of the association. ‘We have a very busy schedule. A bar night on Sunday, where we play board games or host a pub quiz, a lunch every Monday, and a drink and party on Tuesdays.’

Tonight, ISN also launches an activity for students who want to talk about the difficulties they face living abroad, whether they have been abroad I the past, are here on exchange, or are planning to go abroad in the future. The Living Room events, as they are called, will take place monthly in the Student Chaplaincy Living Room. Students eat together, listen to lectures about living abroad and intercultural issues, and talk to each other.

Stamppot

‘We want to be an association for all international students, not just the group who likes to party’, says te Hennepe. ‘On top of that, we want to enable students to talk about the fact that it is not always easy to study abroad.’ For this, they have appointed a special Integration Manager, who is in charge of the Living Room events. ‘We also have a food committee. Tonight, there will be stamppot, a typical Dutch dish. But we will cook something different every month.’
