Bike lanes St. Annastraat to be revamped, campus cyclists must take detour
The bike lanes along the St. Annastraat are being revamped; cyclists to and from the campus will have to deal with diversions. The construction work is set to begin on Sunday and last for over two months.
The bike lanes along the St. Annastraat between the Campusbaan and Groenestraat will be closed for several weeks starting Sunday. The work is part of a larger project to make the St. Annastraat safer. Parts of the bike lane will be closed until 7 July and cyclists will be rerouted.
Part of the work involves the widening of bike lanes, as can be read in an announcement made by the contractor and the municipality (in Dutch, ed.). The connection between the St. Annastraat and Thijmstraat will also be improved, and maintenance is taking place on the road surface and railway viaduct. The construction work is expected to be completed in full by the end of August 2023.
Detour
The redesign will take place in four phases. During the first two phases, construction work will take place on the bike lane between the Groenewoudseweg and Pagodepad. This will take until 26 May. The bike lane in the direction of the city centre will be closed during this time. Work will continue on the other side of the road after May 26th, which means that the bike lane in the direction of the campus will be closed.
The thousands of daily cyclists who commute via this route will need to take a detour, which runs along Laan van Scheut and Pagodepad past the HAN University of Applied Sciences building. The road remains open to pedestrians. Buses will run a different route during the construction work.
The modifications to the bike lanes should be completed one week before the Four Days’ Marches. The last phase will get underway later in the summer, during which the St. Annastraat will be closed to all traffic in order to widen the road between the Groenestraat and Campusbaan.
