Week tip: Run like Santa
No idea what to do during the upcoming week? Our week tippers know what to do! This week, Abigail Froud invites you to get into the Christmas spirit with your friends whilst raising money for charity by dressing up as Santa, for the annual Santa Run in Nijmegen.
The snow may be melting, but Christmas is fast approaching. This usually means a lot of last-minute preparations. You have inevitably eaten all the chocolate from your advent calendar already and the Christmas spirit is really taking a toll on your waistline. Why not take a break from the stress to embrace a guilt-free night of wholesome Christmas fun? What better way to do this than to dress up as Santa and run 2.5km or 5km? The Santa Run Nijmegen is giving you this exact opportunity.
The Santa Run is an annual event that has been running for seven years and is taking place at 20:00 on the 21st December this year. It really is as silly as it sounds. By entering this fun run you will be part of a huge group of Santas taking over the town to spread Christmas joy in a blur of red suits and white beards. Your Santa suit is provided after registration, but additional festive garments can only help with spreading cheer.
A ticket for the Santa run costs 12 euro fifty cents and this year all the money raised will be given to KiKa. KiKa is a children’s cancer research charity so you can feel good for giving at this time of year as well as having a funny evening.
If running doesn’t really appeal to you then come along to the start and finish line at the Molenstraat where food and drinks will be served. You can cheer along your more active friends and enjoy the spectacle of the evening. A DJ will also be playing. I am personally hoping for at least ten plays of ‘All I Want for Christmas’ by Mariah Carey. The merriment does not have to stop at the finish line, however, as there will be an after-party at Heidi’s Ski Hut.
The Santa Run is the guilt-free evening of festivities and fun that you deserve. Why not get a group of friends together and celebrate the end of the semester with a competition to see who is the best Santa?
