Michael Veder is the new interim dean of the Faculty of Law. The professor joined the Faculty Board yesterday. The Faculty also has a new vice dean: Hansko Broeksteeg is replacing Claartje Bulten.
The Executive Board appointed professors Michael Veder and Hansko Broeksteeg as interim dean and interim vice dean of the Faculty of Law. This decision was taken following a positive advice from the Faculty participational bodies, writes the University in a news release.
As of yesterday, the Faculty Board includes Veder (Professor of Civil Law) and Broeksteeg (Professor of Constitutional Law), as well as Vice Dean Vincent van Hoof and Director Sharon de Groot. Both professors previously served as vice deans at the Faculty.
Veder will chair the Faculty Board until 1 November; Broeksteeg will stay on until the end of this calendar year. Their assignment is to launch the appointment procedure for a new dean and to carry out (or commission) an analysis of the working culture.
Claartje Bulten is leaving
Claartje Bulten is no longer a member of the Faculty Board. According to the University, she is stepping down to ensure that the Faculty’s two major research centres (SteR and OO&R) are both still represented on the Board. Hansko Broeksteeg is affiliated with SteR; Michael Veder with OO&R, as is Bulten.
In mid-March, the Executive Board withdrew Michiel Kompier as interim dean after his appointment on 1 March triggered a storm of criticism. The participational bodies and administrators Claartje Bulten and Vincent van Hoof refused to cooperate with Kompier.
‘We are delighted to see the Faculty Board restored to its full strength and we are confident that Michael Veder and Hansko Broeksteeg, together with the other members, have what it takes to meet the administrative challenges facing the Faculty,’ the Executive Board wrote.
