To get you through the long winter, Vox has made an English version of this year's 'cold'-themed winter special. It is available now, in the Global Lounge and online (see below).

For this special issue, we interviewed Nijmegen General Practioner Floris van den Berg, who has spent his past year living on the South Pole. One of the things he studies is the effect of extreme isolations on the brain and the heart. ‘I often had the feeling that I was living with eleven zombies.’

Also in this issue: ‘Ice man’ Wim Hof, who made the cold into his life’s work, by teaching people how to cope with it and challenge himself to endure extreme temperatures. On some level, that is exactly what the three students we interviewed do. They study in cold countries this year, and have to get used to living in a completely different climate.
