His love for computing science led Pedro von Sydow (20) all the way from Thailand to Nijmegen. Here, he plans to pursue a bachelor degree at the Faculty of Science – and has already fallen in love with the city he’s going to call home for the next years.
Why did you choose Computing Science?
‘I have been interested in computing science for a long time, but my school stopped offering it as an elective. Because of that, I was forced to quit it for a while. I looked into other fields, but decided it’s time for me to finally follow my passion.’
Why did you decide to study at Radboud University?
‘Some of my friends told me about Nijmegen, so I started to look into Radboud University myself. I think the university has a good reputation and a course that suits me. I also think Nijmegen is a beautiful city and I really like it here.’
What are you looking forward to the most?
‘I’m excited to finally start turning a field I’m interested in into a career. Computing science will no longer be just my hobby, but a serious part of my life. And I can’t wait to go from playing video games to actually programming and learning how the hardware works.’
Is there anything that stresses you out about the new academic year?
‘I think that I will most likely find my course challenging, but I’m not a person that is very easily stressed about school life, so I’m not too nervous about starting my studies.’
