Partying in the Molenstraat like back in the days: ‘I’m so happy this is possible again’
For those who want to party during the introduction week, the Radboud University has only organized a (rather small) ‘introduction show’. There are, however, enough parties in the city center. Especially the festival in front of student cafe Bar 2 in the Molenstraat seems to be an eyecatcher.
Twice a day there are 750 students that fill the terrace in front of the student cafes in the Molenstraat. For five hours they can party as hard as they want, without having to think about keeping distance from each other.
Normally a good night out doesn’t start until midnight, but this week the first parties start at half past twelve in the afternoon. Manager Sanne van Lochem is happy with the way everything works out. ‘At six o’clock we turn off the lights and the music. The first batch of student leaves and in half an hour we tidy everything up. The second group arrives at half past six and can dance until midnight.’

For a while it was uncertain for Bar 2 what exactly they could organize, but the festivals are all according to the current corona rules and restrictions. ‘Because we created a closed off area where you can only enter with a QR-code showing you are vaccinated or with proof you tested negative, we became a small festival. It’s nice that it works out and to see students having a good time.’
And they sure are having a good time, according to nursing student Cassandra Gerlofs on Monday afternoon. ‘I’m so happy this is possible again. You get to know your fellow students in a different way at a party than from behind your computer screen. And honestly: having a beer in one hand helps as well.’
