Rainbow flags line the university streets - anyone who is on campus this week cannot miss it is Pink Week. This year's activities are centered around the theme 'Colour your Perspective', and are mainly held online.

The Nijmegen program of the Pink Week, which, like every year, starts on the international day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia, has been put together by Dito, the organization for young LGBTIQ+ persons in Nijmegen.

Radboud University is supporting the week, among other things by raising the rainbow flag. Rona Jualla van Oudenhoven, program manager diversity, equality and inclusion at Radboud, officially opened Pink Week this morning. ‘We acknowledge that we are all wired to be unconsciously biased’, she said in her speech. ‘But at the same time, we also know that we can manage our biases so that we can create a society that is safe for everyone.’

This year, the activities (which are mostly online) are centered around the diversity within the LGBTIQ+ community. For example, tonight there will be a Zoom meeting from 19.30h on what it is like to be an LGBTIQ+ person with a disability. And Thursday there will be a discussion evening about refugees who are queer, in collaboration with Amnesty.

Burlesque

But there are also lighter activities, such as a burlesque dance workshop (Tuesday), a pub quiz (Wednesday) and a bingo-evening with music on Friday, to wrap up the week. All these meetings are online.

If you are eager to meet people offline, there is the opportunity to do so on Thursday. Between 12:00 and 14:00, lunch can be picked up at the HAN location on Kapittelweg, to enjoy together in the open air.
