Fight for your country (and bribe the jury)

01 Feb 2018

Of course the message of our international campus is that inside, we are all the same. But sometimes, it is fine to show your true heritage. The new international students did just that, yesterday during the third night of Orientation.

Around 200 students arrived in Nijmegen this week, to attend the Orientation Week. They have attended lectures and dinners, and have moved into their new homes. ‘The international orientation is growing every year. This week has been going very well so far’, said Bart Janssen, student coordinator at Radboud International Students, yesterday during the traditional country competition at Café Van Buren.

The students performed for their fellow first-years. In earlier years, students were asked to perform something from their home countries, even if there were only 2 from the same background. ‘Those small groups usually win, because everyone thinks they are cute’, said Janssen. But because there were students from more than 40 countries this week, they were divided into eighteen groups.

After the singing, dancing and glitter, most people thought Italy had the best performance. However, Canada won, because they bribed the jury. They bought them beers.
