Refter wants to sell out more often

20 Oct 2016

The Refter hopes to start selling out one of the three hot meals it offers every day. By preparing less food, less food will be wasted and thrown into the waste container.

Daily, the Refter sells three different hot meals, until 19.00. After that time the kitchen closes and until last week, all food that was heated and not sold disappeared into the waste container. A waste, thought student faction AKKUraatd. Last academic year, the Facilities & Service department talked to the faction to see if it was possible to change the situation. A pilot turned into policy. Since last week, the restaurant service a ‘gone is gone’ meal.

‘We intend to be sold out of that meal everyday’, says David Niessen from Facilities & Service. ‘As soon as one of the components of the meal is sold out, the rest is available for the reduced rate of 2,50. The last week has shown that this way, we do not have anything left on the end of the day.’

According to Niessen, it is not possible to apply this plan to all three meals. ‘People have to be able to get a meal until 18.59 every day at the Refter.’
