Week tip: Fishnets and lipstick for Halloween

23 Oct 2017

No idea what to do during the upcoming week? Our week tippers know what to do! This week, Abigail Froud recommends a Halloween themed break from mid-term revision.

Do you want to get your Halloween celebrations off to an early start? What a stupid question, of course you do! What better way to celebrate the spooky season than with a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show – an undeniable Halloween classic? On the 25th October at 20:30 in the Marcus-Antonius café, Dito is hosting such an event. Dito is an LGBT+ organisation that offers a number of inclusive activities and groups.

If you’re a die-hard fan that wants to see the movie for the hundredth time, you’re encouraged to get yourself dressed up in the theme of the show. If you’re a complete novice to the cult classic then you are welcomed with open arms and are encouraged to also find yourself an appropriate outfit (the more fishnets and lipstick the better). After all, what is the Rocky Horror Picture Show without the dramatics of make-up, music and dance?

For those who aren’t in the know, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a rock-opera that prides itself on its freakiness and frivolity. The plot follows the transformation of a somewhat boring couple as they are immersed into the world of Dr. Frank-N-Furter who encourages us all to ‘give yourself over to absolute pleasure’. At this point in the semester, it is fair to say that a lot of us need this kind of advice.

If you enjoy the night and want to get more involved with Dito then there is plenty of events coming up that you could attend. These include twice monthly pink lunches at the student church and board game nights. Dito also acts as a support network for any LGBT+ people aged 18-28. The Rocky Horror Picture Show screening, however, is open to anyone regardless of sexuality to come together and enjoy a night of sing-alongs and debauchery.

If you want to know more about the event or Dito then head over to their Facebook event.
