Communication can sometimes be a very tricky thing. Especially, when your Dutch language skills never exceeded the phrases ‘Dankjewel’, ‘Alsjeblieft’ and ‘Sorry, mijn Nederlands is niet zo goed. Engels?’ – These bits might be enough to survive in the land secretly ruled by bikes, but many of the cultural highlights of your stay in this beautiful city might pass without your own awareness. Luckily, for this week’s week tip, no particular language skills are required. Only a bike, a free afternoon and no severe impairments of your visual field.

Photographs can speak their very own language. And the photos that are currently exhibited at the Afrika Museum in Berg en Dal as part of the 60st World Press Photo exhibition speak a very relevant and up-to-date one. The pictures manage to catch certain moments of our time, whether they put extraordinary events or everyday life in the centre of attention. And whether or not you are involved in one of the ten topics the exhibition deals with or not, every single photo tells a story worth listening and deals with issues worth exploring.

Adults pay €14,00 for a visit, students with a valid student-ID €6,00. The museum is open every Tuesday till Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., except for New Year Eve’s day. The 2017 World Press Photo exhibition resides in the museum until the 4th of March 2018, leaving a lot of exam-free time to spend an afternoon visiting the exhibition and, eventually, getting inspired, moved or shaken by snapshots of an eventful year.
